Meet your new winter MVP: Mead’s Easy Spiced Hot Apple Cider. Looking for something warm, cozy and guaranteed to make your house smell amazing? This classic cider does all that and more. No fancy tools, no stress, just pure comfort in a mug.

This Mead-approved recipe comes together in minutes and then simmers away, filling your kitchen with the irresistible aroma of apples, citrus and warm spices. It’s perfect for winter gatherings, snowy afternoons, Valentine’s Day hangs or anytime you need a little extra cozy in your life. (Bonus: there’s a spiked option below for the grown-ups. 😉)

🍎 INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 gallon fresh Mead’s apple cider or unfiltered apple juice

  • 1 large orange, sliced

  • 4-5 cinnamon sticks (plus extra for garnish)

  • 1 tablespoon whole cloves

  • 1 tablespoon whole allspice berries

  • Optional extras:

    • 1-inch piece fresh ginger, peeled and sliced

    • 2-3 star anise

    • ¼ cup brown sugar or maple syrup, to taste

🔥 DIRECTIONS:

  1. Combine: In a large pot or Dutch oven, add the apple cider (or juice), orange slices, cinnamon sticks, cloves, allspice and any optional add-ins you’re feeling.

  2. Heat: Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat. (No boiling - we’re cozy, not chaotic.)

  3. Simmer: Reduce heat to low, cover and let it gently simmer for at least 30 minutes. The longer it simmers, the bolder the flavor.

  4. Sweeten: Taste and stir in brown sugar or maple syrup if you’d like a little extra sweetness.

  5. Strain & Serve: Strain out the spices and fruit, then ladle the warm cider into mugs. Garnish with a cinnamon stick or orange slice and enjoy.

❤️ FUN VARIATIONS:

  • Slow Cooker Method: Add everything to a slow cooker and cook on low for 2-4 hours. Use the “keep warm” setting for easy serving at parties.

  • Spiked Cider (Adults Only): Add about 1½ oz of dark rum, brandy or bourbon per mug for a cozy, grown-up twist.

  • Red Hot Cider: For a nostalgic spin, warm apple juice with cinnamon candies (Red Hots) until melted for a sweet, spicy red cider.
