🍒 Meet Chuck, our Farm Guru Emeritus. Chuck knows everything there is to know about growing fruit here at Mead… Including the secrets behind our very special cherry netting!

When we asked him about it, he gave us the scoop: “We cover our cherry trees for two big reasons. 1: To keep the birds from gobbling them all up (sorry, birds!). 2: To protect the ripe fruit from heavy rain.”

Cherries are delicate! Unlike apples, which have a natural waxy coating, cherries can bruise and split easily once they’re close to ripe. So how do we protect them and still let the trees get the water they need? Enter: the clever cherry canopy.

Our cover is a smart combo of materials: translucent canvas to shield the trees and fruit, paired with strips of mesh netting in between. That way, the rain drains around the trees, watering the roots while skipping the fruit.

And just like that… Life is a bowl of cherries. 🍒😉
