Gleaning Up

Our 2nd Annual Gleaning Day Helped Nourish Our Community

Earlier this month, we held our 2nd Annual Gleaning Day and we couldn’t be more grateful for everyone who joined in! With the help of our friends at Pleasantville Community Garden, 885 pounds of apples were gathered, organized and shared with local food organizations, including Hillside Food Outreach, Second Chance Foods, Neighbors Link and The Pantry New York.

What is gleaning, you ask? Gleaning is the practice of harvesting fruits and vegetables that might otherwise go unused and sharing them with people who need them most. It’s a wonderful way to reduce food waste while helping families facing food insecurity. At Mead Orchards, gleaning is more than just collecting apples, it’s about coming together as a community to make a difference.

About our partner: Pleasantville Community Garden has been bringing fresh food to people in need across Westchester County since 2014. They grow, gather and share produce, ensuring that fresh, nutritious food reaches those who need it most. Partnering with them for Gleaning Day helps extend the orchard’s harvest to the community in the most meaningful way.

As food insecurity continues to affect more families in our region, these local partnerships matter - A LOT! We’re honored to help neighbors nourish neighbors.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, lent a hand and made this day so special. Community is everything. Enjoy some photo highlights below! 🍎🤝✨
