A Cut Above the Rest

Berry Pruning for the Juiciest Harvest

🫐 It’s that time of year again - pruning season! It’s not just our fruit trees, in the spring our blueberries and red, black and yellow raspberries are also all gearing up for a berry-licious future.

Why prune, you ask? Well, we want our plants to focus on growing berries, not just bigger branches. That means it’s time to trim those canes (the fruit-bearing branches) with love and a little strategy.

Here’s the scoop:

  • Cut away the too-big and too-old canes. They’ve had their moment in the sun and are ready to make way for fresh growth.

  • Snip the too-small and too-young canes. They’re just getting started, so let them grow a bit before bearing fruit.

  • Focus on the medium canes. These are your berry-making champions, producing the juiciest, sweetest berries we all can’t wait to taste.

With a little pruning TLC, we’re making sure our bushes will be bursting with berries that are ripe, plump and perfect for pies, jams or just a handful straight from the bush.
